Accessibility (Screen Readers)
How to enable accessibility features for a user
There are additional settings that should be turned on to use iCarol with accessibility software (ex. JAWS or other screen reader applications) to work successfully with iCarol for your visually impaired volunteers and staff. These settings apply enhancements to the iCarol user interface to work more efficiently with accessibility software applications. You will need to enable the Accessibility settings for each volunteer or staff member that will be using one of these applications.
- Click Vols-Staff from the left menu
- Click the staff member that you need to enable these settings for
- Ensure you are viewing the Profile tab and click the Edit button
- Click the check box next to "Enable Accessibility Features"
- Click the Save button
Please refer to your accessibility software application to answer any other questions you may have in working with that software.
In addition to enabling the setting above, if your organization uses the 'Resources' area of iCarol, you also must enable the 'Uses the New Resource Search screen' setting for that user, by completing the following steps:
- Click Vols-Staff from the left menu
- Click the staff member that you need to enable these settings for
- Ensure you are viewing the Admin tab and click the 'Advanced Security Settings' link
- Select the checkbox next to the 'Uses the New Resource Search screen' setting and click 'Save'
When you enable the setting, you will notice the new resource search page functions very similar to the old main resource search page, but it is more screen reader friendly.

Please be aware, at this time iCarol does not fully comply with ADA requirements, however we do have customers successfully using iCarol with screen readers, such as JAWS. If developments to ensure iCarol complies with ADA is important to you, a custom development project can be explored.
