Legacy Shifts: Unregistered Volunteers and Staff from Shifts
How to unregister vols-staff from Shifts
Users may need to unregister for a shift, or be unregistered from a repeating assignment of shifts for any number of reasons. The following is true when unregistering users from shifts:
- if a user is registered for a repeating assignment of shifts, only advanced users can unregister the user from the repeating assignment
- depending on your system settings, basic users can unregister for shifts themselves a certain number of days before the shift is scheduled to occur
To unregister from an individual shift, complete the following steps:
- From the main Shifts page, or from the Shifts tab of the Vols-Staff profile, select the shift date/time you wish to unregister the user from
- Click the button on the right side of the page to ‘Unregister’
To unregister a user from a set of recurring shifts, complete the following steps:
- From the main Shifts page, or from the Shifts tab of the Vols-Staff profile, select the shift date/time you wish to unregister the user from
- Click the link to ‘Repeating assignment’ on the right side of the page
- In the yellow pop out box that appears, under ‘Step 1: Choose which action to take (Assign or Remove)’, select the radio button to ‘Remove [user name] from the [shift time and name]’
- Under ‘Step 2: Choose when to apply the action’, depending on the shifts you want to unregister the user from, make selections in the following fields to set the parameters:
- from the first drop-down list, select one of the following: every, every other, each month’s first, each month’s second, each month’s third, or each month’s fourth,
- then from the second drop-down list indicate day, weekday, weekend day, or a specific day of the week,
- finally, from the calendar filters, choose the first date and the last date to remove the user from the shift, or select the checkbox for no end date
- Under ‘Step 3: Apply the action by clicking the button’, click the button to ‘Make these changes’ to apply your selections from Step 1 and Step 2

For example, a user may be registered for a repeating shift that’s setup to happen every weekday. You can use the filters in step 2 to choose to unregister a user from ‘every Monday’, starting next Monday, with no end date, and they’ll stay registered for all other shifts on the remaining days.
Control the amount of time before a shift that users are able to unregister
By default, users can remove themselves from any shift to which they are assigned. You may wish to prevent people from being able to do this if the shift is going to occur within a certain time frame.
To set the amount of time before a shift that users can unregister, complete the following steps:
- As an Admin level user, click 'Admin Tools' in your left side menu
- Click the 'Shifts' tab
- Under the section named 'Signing up and substitutions' select the desired number of days, including 'anytime' or 'never' from the drop-down list before 'or more before shift, person can unregister’
- Click the 'Save all settings' button
