What is the News?

News allows you to share news and announcements with your volunteers and staff.

View News Messages

All users can view News Messages unless they have been restricted from viewing the entire News area, or if certain messages have been restricted to certain users only.

Steps to View News Messages:
  1. Click on "News" on the left hand menu.
  2. You will see a list of dates and titles from existing messages, the latest message is listed at the top of the list.
  3. Click on the title of the message to see more details. 
  4. A box will appear with the details of the existing message.
  5. Click on "News" on the left hand menu to go back to the list of messages.

Enable/Disable the News Feature

If not used by the agency, Admins can choose to turn on or off any of the available communication features such as Chatboard, Events and News.
Once a feature has been removed it will no longer show up on the left hand menu for all of your users. If the feature had items they will remain in the system and show up again if you later choose to turn on the feature.

Steps to turn on or off communication features such as Chatboard, Events and News:
  1. Click on "Admin Tools" on the left hand menu.
  2. Click on the "Tools" tab.
  3. Scroll down to Communication Features section
  4. Check mark those features you want to keep or un-check those you want to remove (chatboard, event calendar, news)
  5. Click on "Save all settings" at the top of the page

Add a News Message

Admins and Supervisors (and those users with special security permission) can create News messages.
  1. These messages can be categorized (News, Fun, Inspiration, Event)
  2. You can set a date when a messages should appear (Admins and Supervisors can still see items that have expired, or that have not yet appeared)
  3. You can attach documents to a message or links to other web pages
  4. News messages are listed in the News area in the left side menu, and recent News items appear on the main Home page when users first log into iCarol

Steps to add a News Message:
  1. Click on "News" on the left hand menu.
  2. Click on "Add a news item".
  3. A box will appear with the option to type in a short title of the message (which will appear on the summary view of news items), the actual message, select a category, set the dates when the message should appear, attach files or type in a link of a web site.
  4. Click on "Save" (or on "cancel" if you do not want to save your changes) 

Edit or Delete News and Fun Messages

All fields are editable which means you can still change the category, the date when a messages should appear, attach documents or links to another web site and use the spell checker.

Steps to Edit or Delete News and Fun Messages:
  1. Click on "News & Fun" on the left hand menu.
  2. You will see a list of titles for existing messages. Click on the title of the message that you want to edit. 
  3. A box will appear with the details of the existing message, click on the "Edit" button on the top of the screen.
  4. You can now make your changes in the message
  5. Click on "Save" if you want to save your changes (or click on "cancel" if you want to keep the message without saving your changes).
  6. Or click on "Delete" if you want to delete this message from the system.
