AMI% Calculations for Household Size and Household Annual Income
With this feature you can add your local AMI amounts, identify the question on your form that answers the “Household size” and “Household Annual Income”. Once values are entered into the Household size and Household Annual Income questions on your forms, the AMI % will be automatically calculated and displayed on the Contact Record with the annual income question.
For example, you may choose to setup your local AMI (or Area Median Income) to determine eligibility for different Housing Programs you may refer help seekers to. Or, you may wish to setup the Federal Poverty Limits (FPL), to determine eligibility for other Social Programs, like Health Insurance and Food Assistance.
How to setup the AMI% Calculations
- Log into your iCarol system with an Admin account
- Click on Admin Tools
- Click on the “Contacts & Profiles” tab
- Enter the local AMI for household sizes into the Area Median Housing table
- Add AMI
- Enter a household size (eg. “3”)
- Enter the local AMI amount (eg. “25200”) (Note this should be 100% of the AMI for that household size)
- Click Add

Important Note: Determine if you will collect Monthly or Annual Income from help seekers and enter AMI in the same format (ie. If capturing Monthly on the contact form, Divide Annual AMI by 12 to get the Monthly AMI)
- Update AMI
- Change the value for the household size or AMI amount
- Delete AMI
- Click “Delete” for the row to delete
- Click “Save Settings” when done at the top of the page

Important Note: Only one Income Threshold Guideline (ITG) can be setup per system, and then each form can be configured to use the AMI setup for the system. This means if you have two different initiatives/programs that each use a different calculation you will need to choose one. (i.e. Federal Poverty Guidelines for both “Medi-Cal” and “Covered California” programs – which each have different Monthly Income Guidelines per Household)
To calculate the AMI% two Groups must exist on your Contact Records
- Household size
- Household annual income

These questions can be named anything that makes sense for your forms and processes. The questions must both be Type=Text box and Type of text box=Integer to calculate the AMI%
Note: for instructions to create or modify existing custom Categories, Groups on your Contact Records see the related knowledge base article.
